Enemy Number One?

Have you ever noticed how the further in debt you are, the harder it is to get back on your feet? One small example: You can’t afford to pay your car insurance bill for two months because feeding your child is more important. The insurance agency, by law, must then report you to the DMV who will suspend your license if your auto insurance is not reinstated within a specified amount of time. You shop around for car insurance, but everyone’s rates are now higher than you were paying because of the lapse in insurance you’ve now incurred. Still, if you can’t scrape together the money to get insurance again, it will cost you much more to finally be able to legally drive after they suspend your license. Then, once they do, your insurance rate gets hiked again, because you now have a suspension on your record. It’s like you’re being punished for being broke.

On a similar note, if you wish to buy or lease a car, you get a much higher interest rate than someone with more income and better credit. Therefore, you end up paying much more for your vehicle than the guy next to you who can actually afford to pay more. When is this country’s citizens going to stand up for what’s right? When did the ‘little guy’ become enemy number one? Instead of bailing out corporations who acknowledged the financial risk when they incorporated their businesses, wouldn’t it behoove us to give financial assistance to those in need? People who need money won’t be hording it away for a rainy day. It would go back into the economy. And, implemented correctly, it could be ensured to go directly into the American economy, thus boosting it. My point is, even with a democratic president, there are far too many policies in place for the rich to stop getting richer and the poor to have a fighting chance of survival.
