(that title is Sarcastic BTW)
So, Here we are running debts and deficits, and we all “know” that when you run debt and deficits, that you end up having rampant inflation and devaluation. After all, considering how many bonds the US has to sell, surely we’re going to have to pay higher and higher yields to sell them, right?
Not quite. While everyone may be afraid of inflation, Bond yields have dropped down so 10 year bonds are now below 3% yield.
And yet people are still afraid of the debt. As the phrase goes, worry about the short run, because in the long run we’re all dead.
I hate to say it, but it may be time for a second stimulus package. We either need to get people employed or accept that we’re going to run the risk of a long steady contraction.
And I hate to say it, but we’re well and truly fucked if the people who want to go hardcore austerity on the US get into power.
When you’ve thrown your back out and you’re walking like you’re north of 80, sometimes the little geeky things help cheer you up. Consider this to be a sort of lost day in the universe.
They’re struggling to keep from defaulting on their own debts. Not that it’s ever talked about. You see, in the past states didn’t have quite the problem on finding ways to ride out recessions and downturns, but with ballooning unemployment and dropping property tax values. States are finding their revenues dropping faster than ever. Toss in a dash of pure opposition to any tax increases, and you find the most you can get the law makers to do is to cut benefits to the poorest members of their state. Which reduces revenues even further.
People who are poor and desperate aren’t saving money, they’re spending money just to survive from week to week. Sure if you’re making enough money, but often times, stimulus works best at the lowest levels, because that group is the group that will spend it all. The Federal Government is about to end support for state and local governments. Few people realize that 1/3rd of the stimulus package was money sent directly to state and local governments. Once that money goes away, the state deficits go up dramatically and there’s not much that can be done with the state and local governments so hamstrung.
It’s not the end of the world, but I won’t be shocked to see some states default before this is over.
Really, what do you say, He was an imperfect person who held views in the past that are considered abhorrent today. I suppose I’m more forgiving, but I figure opinions should have a shelf life. what you feel 5 years ago shouldn’t hold as much weight as what you feel now. 10 Years ago, 20 years, 50 years ago? Do you really want to be held accountable and denigrated for something you did 30, 40, 50 years ago? I’m not trying to excuse something, but pointing out that it’s wrong and judgmental and narrow minded to sit here and give the same weight to something that far in the past, as compared to present behavior and actions.
I have no idea how his Senate Seat will go. It could stay Democrat depending on who runs, but that’ll be something that can be looked at another day. For now, RIP Senator Byrd.

I wonder who he voted for in the last election?
Missouri farmer David Jungerman has raised the hackles of local residents with a politically-charged sign he’s placed on his “45-foot-long, semi-truck box trailer” on his farm. The trailer reads: “Are you a Producer or Parasite Democrats – Party of the Parasites.” Now, the Kansas City Star reveals that Jungerman has been the recipient of over a million dollars of federal farm subsidies since 1995
Yeahhhhhhh…. I got nothing I can add to this…
After all, it’s only a matter of time…
Pornography will have its own top-level domain, dot-XXX, the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers decided Friday.
Heck, maybe I should get it just to make sure someone else doesn’t get to it first! Though this will also make it much easier for systems like comcast and other groups eliminate access to such sites. I suppose it’ll depend on the community. (not like people couldn’t use proxies to get to them, but that means actually making an effort, and who does that?!?)
Really, Doctor Hoo Indeed!
Also Remember, Why call it a duck pond if it has no ducks? In homage to the season finale…
“I have it on good authority that the doctor travels back to young Amelia in the 11th Hour and tells her that it’s very important that she kills all the ducks.”
“The Ducks get their revenge”
I sure don’t, but they poll a lot and usually I mentally subtract 4 points from the republicans and add about 4 to the democrats. If that holds up, then this poll is certainly an eyebrow raiser.
The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Burr picking up 44% support while Marshall picks up 43%. Seven percent (7%) of voters would choose some other candidate and six percent (6%) are undecided.
I’d want to see more movement before I’d seriously consider this a potential pick up. But for the Democrats, any chance to pick off a seat will help offset the likely losses they’ll suffer in other seats.
Bonus: A Live version of the song, just because it’s THAT good
oh about 24 hours. Which explains why Republicans feel comfortable to thinking it’s ‘time to move on‘
House Republicans who condemned Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) and threatened to yank his position atop the Energy and Commerce Committee have backed off and will let Barton remain the party’s top lawmaker on the panel.
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), who rebuked Barton for his BP apology last week, told the House Republican Conference Wednesday morning in a closed door meeting that it’s time to move on.
Bonus points for having his communications secretary take the fall for Tweeting that Barton was right all along today.
and some of you still think that these bozos are better?
